Supervisory & Management Skills
All too often people management is seen as an ‘add-on’ to the operational role of a manager/supervisor and many managers are now faced with the added pressure of managing remotely.
In agreement with participants, training will be offered either virtually or in the classroom according to government Covid-19 guidelines.
This course is about capturing the hearts and minds of managers so that you understand the importance of excellent people management and the value that should be placed on this aspect of your role. Whether you are manging one person or a team, your skills, approach and knowledge will greatly impact others.
This course will help you to understand what management is, and what it isn’t; how to transition into becoming a manager; and how to overcome some of the hurdles that supervisory roles present. You will explore what strengths you already bring to the role, identify areas to work on and explore the tools to help you do this
Most importantly, you will learn how to create an environment where people feel supported and valued. By the end of the training you will be able to:
- Recognise the difference between management and leadershi
- Understand the principal roles and responsibilities of an effective manager
- Identify your personal management style and adapt your style to support others
- Develop strategies for managing remote teams
- Take a considered and consultative approach to decision making
- Apply goals and prioritise effectively to meet departmental outcomes
- Utilise a structured process to plan virtual delegation in a way that develops and empowers other

Lyle has 25 years experience in the Financial Services Industry. Most of that time was spent in the Sales and Marketing field of Commercial Banking, the last 7 years as Branch Manager. Since leaving the corporate world, Lyle has gained some 23 years of experience as a senior Associate Trainer, Consultant & Leadership Coach
His significant experience in working with people at all levels across a wide range of sectors both locally and internationally, enables him to teach from the ‘heart’ as well as the ‘head’. He presents programmes and engages in 1:1 coaching with a passion that comes from hard-earned experience and success.
Lyle’s mission is to ‘help managers become confident leaders’ by helping them to understand that whilst leadership is always, it is easy. It really boils down to how we treat our people – as human beings with basic human being needs. In addition to this, Lyle facilitates a range of business skills workshops.
Lyle’s downtime involves cooking, hill-walking, learning to play the saxophone and spending time with his two grandchildren
Stuart is an experienced Training and Leadership Consultant with over 20 years experience of designing, delivering and evaluating personal and team development modules and programmes. His early years were spent as a manager and leader in the commercial world working for companies such as British Airways and British Gas in countries such as England, Northern Ireland and South Africa.
More recently Stuart has been delivering development modules for companies in the Financial Services, Manufacturing and Production Sectors as well as the Public Sector. He's had the good fortune of travelling abroad to deliver programmes including, Nigeria, Hong Kong, Italy and India.
Always looking for new and different approaches Stuart has experience of delivering Leadership and Management modules as well as Change Management, Coaching, High Performing Teams and a variety of personal development modules. Since lockdown Stuart has designed and delivered modules virtually (Holding Difficult Conversations Virtually, Manager as a Virtual Coach) via Zoom and Microsoft Teams. He is also a certified coach and accredited psychometric consultant.
